American Helicopter Society
South Florida Chapter

invites you to

Southern Pig and Cattle

for a presentation of:

"Cool USAF Helicopter Missions" presented by Rus Stiles, Chief R&D Pilot & Sikorsky Tech Fellow (Ret'd)

Tuesday, November 8, 2016

USAF Helicopter Missions - what are they? Engineers know a lot about how the helicopters are designed and built, but how much do they know about what the helicopters do when they leave the factory? The USAF has arguably the smallest of the military helicopter fleets, but has used them in interesting and innovative ways.

Lorren (Rus) Stiles is retired from Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation, where he was the Chief Pilot for Research and Development Programs and a Technical Fellow. During his tenure, he participated in development of several new aircraft models.

Rus started his professional career in the USAF. Following graduation from the USAF Academy, he attended helicopter pilot training then went to Southeast Asia flying special operations helicopters, followed by an assignment recovering space hardware, then jet transition. After attending the US Naval Test Pilot School, he worked on the flight test of the Pave Low III helicopter as well as other special mission aircraft.

Rus separated from active duty to join Sikorsky Aircraft, and remained in the USAF Reserve. He retired as Lieutenant Colonel.

His education includes a BS from the USAF Academy and an MS from USC.
